It is some time since I updated this page and at the urging of several Big T enthusiasts - here we go! I checked the online seller, CD Connection today, (6 May 2004) and they list 91 CDs either by Jack or featuring him as a sideman. This is a vast improvement on a few years ago when we would have been scuffling to find more than a couple of CDs available. I have not included the Mosaic boxes in the listing but these may still be available from that company, particularly the last box, the Roulette recordings. I suggest you contact them for availability at http://www.mosaicrecords.com If you can find them - snap them up.
Additionally the French label, CLASSICS or CHRONOLOGICAL CLASSICS, as they are sometimes referred to, are still putting out all of Jack's recorded output under his own name. For Jack as a sideman you will have to dig a little deeper and investigate some of the recordings listed below.
King Of The Blues Trombone (CCM 279) A 2 CD issue of fine tracks from 1928 - 1940 including some of the sessions with brother Charlie and Frankie Trumbauer. This is a MUST!
BG & Big Tea In NYC (GRP 609) Studio recordings with Benny Goodman made in New York. Another must-have CD.
Bobby Hackett/Jack Teagarden / Coast Concert / Jazz Ultimate ( Collector's Choice) If you cannot get the Mosaic box then this is your best bet for the Capitol classics.
That's a Serious Thing (A compilation of
recordings from 1928-1957 - includes the Dorsey/Tea "The Blues")
RCA Bluebird ND90440
I Gotta Right to Sing the Blues (Another
compilation from 1929-1934 - includes tracks with Pollack)
ASV AJA 5059
Louis Armstrong - The 1940's Small Band Sides (Jack
plays on 13 of the 20 tracks - includes the Town Hall Concert)
RCA Bluebird ND86378
Live at the Monterey Jazz Festival 1963 (A
wonderful concert featuring the Teagarden family and friends)
Memphis Archives MA7010
Accent on Trombone
(Fresh Sounds FSR-CD138) This is a re-issue of the Urania LP with Lucky Thompson
and Ruby Braff. A wonderful recording, long out of print.
Think Well Of Me (Verve Elite Edition 314 557 101-2) This is a reissue of the LP Jack made with strings of the songs of Willard Robison. Beautiful playing and wonderful singing. My only reservation is that Verve could have added some alternate tracks for we only get the original LP.
Where to buy the recordings? There are many ways but let me give you mine. For secondhand and hard to get new CDs I browse through eBay (www.ebay.com) and for new CDs I buy on line also. There are many outlets but I find Amazon good (www.amazon.com)
Good hunting!
